Friday, 17.7.2020, from 17:30 Führung: Höhenrausch
After “Geheimnis der Vögel” (The Birds’ Secret), the Höhenrausch exhibit is dedicated to a related topic this year, searching its protagonists again in lofty heights, but exceeding them by far at the same time - the ANGELS.
Angels are usually considered ambivalent "beings betwixt and between" that do not really belong to any world; neither the world of ghosts and gods nor the world of living people. Depending on the cultural area, they are charged with different meaning – they occur as protectors as well as sentinels and soldiers, cosmic craftsmen and officials of heaven, as travel companions and messengers.
At first, the exhibit leads to an assembly of everyday angels – in an arrangement just as muddled and kaleidoscopic as we encounter it in the Here and Now every day: cute inhabitants of heaven in a car commercial, neat garden figures or in esoteric magazines and adverts. After this reality boost, an ingenious circular tour frees the mind for new and completely different angel images: The still familiar but also already surprising topic of biblical angels is addressed extensively in the Ursulinenkirche (Ursuline Church), anchored like a joint at the beginning and the end of the pathway around the exhibit.
The attics and roofs are once again part of the exhibit, too. The voestalpine open space becomes a mirror room, the roof a botanic garden of angels.
