Operetta in seven pictures, in German with surtitles.

Walter Kaufmann (1907-1984) belongs to the generation of composers expelled by the National Socialists who - long overdue - are finally being rediscovered. Kaufmann came from Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) and studied in Prague and Berlin with Franz Schreker, among others. He was just as successful as a composer as he was as a conductor and musicologist. He traveled to India in 1934 to conduct ethnomusicological studies, but did not return due to the fatal political developments in his home country. Instead, he played a major role in shaping Indian musical life, working as a radio editor to disseminate Western-style classical music and as a film music composer accompanying the beginnings of the Bollywood era.

The Linz Landestheater has now been given the go-ahead to premiere Kaufmann's previously unperformed operetta Heute Nacht Fräulein, which only exists in a piano version. So you can look forward to an enjoyable story about a self-confident hat saleswoman, her strict boss and a sad prince, in which you can experience the lively qualities of Kaufmann's music for yourself.
