The collection is the centrepiece and soul of our museum. The basic idea of the presentation is a chronological sequence, which makes it possible to get to know the most important movements and styles in art history from the 19th century to the present in the original.

In addition, we focus on artists who have a special connection to Linz and the Lentos, such as VALIE EXPORT and Herbert Bayer. Art history is not static; on the contrary, the canon is constantly being rewritten, leading to ongoing reevaluations and rediscoveries. In this way, the museum becomes a tool for experiencing and understanding art history, leading to the temporary exhibitions, which are primarily dedicated to contemporary art. The reorganization of the collection was carried out in stages in 2018 by Museum Director Hemma Schmutz together with her team.

In August, families can visit the Lentos with free admission.
