Saturday, 19.10.2024, 7:00 to 16:30 Station Trail for Children at the Cemetery: Tracing Life and Death

Stationenweg Barbarafriedhof

From October 19th several stations at St. Barbara Cemetery will offer children the opportunity to explore the topic of death in an age-appropriate way.

It is important for children to be able to develop their own culture of remembrance and mourning. Experiences of parting and mourning in childhood are formative for the whole of life. Death is a part of life. It is part of life. Children need someone to talk to them about death - and not just when loved ones have died. The death of a pet and reports in the media can also be a reason for children to want to know more about the topic of death. Children have a different understanding of death than adults, they have their own ideas about the afterlife and intuitively sense that a cemetery is a special place.

Children are invited to St Barbara's Cemetery for a special experience:
Multiple stations offer children the opportunity to engage with the topic of death in an age-appropriate way.

The elements of earth - fire - water - air are used to create, paint, explore nature and take photographs. Each child receives their own candle and a feather. The candle is personalised and the feather becomes part of an angel's wings. The interactive stations are suitable for children of kindergarten and primary school age.

The station trail through the cemetery is self-explanatory and can be visited by families with children individually or together in a group.

The start is at the main entrance by the porter.

The stations are also suitable for children of kindergarten and primary school age.
