Friday, 17.7.2026, 14:00 to 18:00 From village to city

Vom Dorf zur Stadt

Since 1999, the history of the region has been shown in various narrative strands on a good 600 m2 of exhibition space.

Natural and cultural history exhibits such as prehistoric shark teeth, Stone Age burial finds and artefacts from more recent eras form part of this comprehensive archaeological documentation.

They paint an exciting picture of times gone by, leading up to the first mention of Leonding in the early Middle Ages and ultimately from village to city with more than 30,000 inhabitants.

The highlight of the permanent exhibition is the approximately 6300-year-old "Leondine".

The girl from the Stone Age is one of the oldest Austrians currently known.

Another special feature of the museum is the depiction of the Maximilian Tower Line. "Apollonia", as Tower 9 is affectionately known, is one of a total of 32 towers that were once built as fortifications around Linz.

It is a rare and valuable testimony to Biedermeier architecture.
